Mental Health & Wellness Assessments for First Responders

At EMDR Transformations Counseling (ETC), we specialize in supporting the mental health and well-being of first responders across Arizona. Collaborating with organizations such as Public Safety Crisis Solutions, the Compassion Alliance, Gilbert Fire & Rescue, and other departments across the state, we are dedicated to being “the mental health first responders for first responders.”

Our Expertise

Our highly skilled team specializes in trauma therapy for first responders, veterans, individuals, couples, families, and children, with EMDR therapy at the core of our approach. Each therapist is not only trained in first responder culture but also brings extensive experience in trauma-focused care. This specialized expertise enables us to effectively address the unique challenges first responders face, including trauma exposure, demanding job conditions, and the stress of balancing work and personal life.

Our Approach

With expertise in first responder cultural competency, we understand the unique challenges they face, including trauma exposure, job demands, and work-life balance stress. To address these, we offer comprehensive mental health and wellness assessments, customized to meet the needs of each department and their team members.

What We Offer

  • Annual mental health screenings, designed to ensure privacy and individualized care.
  • Extensive experience working with over 20 fire and police departments statewide, providing services such as:
    • Mental Health Wellness Assessments
    • PTSD and trauma education
    • Spousal support groups
    • Group sessions after traumatic events
    • Clinical consultation for departments
    • Referrals for substance use and mental health crises
  • All assessments are private and confidential, in line with HIPAA regulations.

Our Process

  1. Initial Assessment: We provide a detailed screening, including 14 questionnaires on topics like stress, trauma, and sleep. Each responder has a private 75-minute session with a licensed therapist.
  2. Follow-Up: A personalized wellness plan is shared via email, followed by an optional 30-minute check-in after 4-6 weeks.
  3. Final Report: A non-diagnostic, confidential department-wide utilization report is provided, highlighting common themes and overall well-being.

We prioritize confidentiality and trauma-informed care, ensuring first responders get the support they need without fear of punitive actions.
