First Responder Wellness Assessments

Confidential Wellness Assessments for Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement & Dispatch

Supporting Operational Readiness and Long-Term Well-Being

At EMDR Transformations Counseling, we provide Annual Mental Health Wellness Assessments designed specifically for public safety professionals. Built on years of experience serving firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and law enforcement personnel across Arizona, our program offers a proactive approach to supporting the health and well-being of those who serve our communities.

These confidential one-on-one assessments help members identify stress early, strengthen resilience, and connect with appropriate resources before challenges begin to affect performance, relationships, or overall well-being. We partner directly with departments to foster a culture of mental wellness, reduce stigma around seeking help, and promote the long-term health and readiness of their personnel.

Why Wellness Assessments Matter

First responders are routinely exposed to high-stress, high-stakes situations that can take a cumulative toll over time. Without opportunities for early identification and support, chronic stress, burnout, and behavioral health concerns can affect overall well-being, relationships, and quality of life.

Our assessment program is designed to:

  • Normalize conversations around mental health and wellness
  • Identify early signs of stress, burnout, trauma exposure, and behavioral health concerns
  • Connect personnel with relevant resources and support before challenges escalate
  • Promote resilience, proactive care, and long-term well-being

What to Expect

Each participant receives a confidential, one-on-one wellness assessment conducted by a licensed mental health professional.

🔹 Private 1:1 Session
Conducted with a trauma-informed therapist trained in the unique stressors and challenges of public safety work, the session combines assessment results with a confidential discussion of mental health, stress, resilience, trauma exposure, sleep, relationships, and overall well-being.

🔹 Behavioral Health Assessment Measures
Participants complete 14 evidence-based behavioral health assessment measures covering areas such as stress, burnout, trauma exposure, sleep, anxiety, depression, and relationship health. These measures are reviewed in advance to help guide the conversation and identify areas of strength, growth, or concern.

🔹 Personalized Follow-Up
Following the assessment, each participant receives a summary email with:

  • Assessment insights and key findings
  • Personal goals developed collaboratively during the session
  • Tailored resources such as books, mindfulness tools, local therapy options, wellness programs, or peer support resources

🔹 Optional 30-Minute Follow-Up
Conducted 4-6 weeks later via telehealth, this session reviews progress, reinforces goals, and provides additional support or resources as needed.

🔹 Department Wellness Summary Report
After all assessments are complete, we provide the department with an anonymized summary report highlighting aggregate wellness trends, common areas of concern, and program utilization. This information helps leadership better understand the needs of their personnel, strengthen wellness initiatives, and support their workforce while maintaining complete individual confidentiality.

What This Is Not

These assessments are never:

❌ Fitness-for-duty evaluations
❌ Diagnostic or punitive in nature
❌ Used for disciplinary action or performance management
❌ Shared with command staff, supervisors, or HR (except in cases of imminent safety concerns)

All services are conducted in accordance with HIPAA and Arizona licensure laws. Individual assessment results remain confidential.
