First Responder Wellness Assessments

Confidential Mental Health Support for Those Who Serve

At EMDR Transformations Counseling, we offer Annual Mental Health Wellness Assessments tailored to the unique needs of first responders. Our program is built on years of experience serving firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and law enforcement professionals across Arizona.

These confidential one-on-one assessments offer a supportive space for members to reflect, reset, and connect with trauma-informed care before stress becomes unmanageable. We partner directly with departments to help foster a culture of mental wellness, reduce stigma, and strengthen resilience from within.

Why Wellness Assessments Matter

First responders face chronic exposure to high-stress, high-stakes situations. Over time, this can lead to cumulative stress, burnout, and mental health challenges that often go unspoken.

Our assessment program is designed to:

  • Normalize conversations around mental wellness
  • Identify and address early signs of burnout, trauma, or distress
  • Provide relevant, culturally competent resources and referrals
  • Encourage proactive, preventive care

What to Expect

Each participant receives a fully private, strengths-based mental health check-in:

🔹 75-Minute 1:1 Session

Conducted in person or via telehealth with an EMDR-trained, trauma-informed therapist. Members are invited to explore their current stress levels, emotional well-being, and personal or work-related concerns.

🔹 Confidential Screening Tools

Members complete 14 mental health & wellness questionnaires covering areas such as anxiety, depression, trauma exposure, burnout, sleep, and relationship health. These are reviewed in advance to guide the session.

🔹 Personalized Follow-Up

After the session, each member receives a summary email with:

  • Score highlights
  • Personal goals (collaboratively set during the session)
  • Tailored resources such as books, mindfulness tools, local therapy options, or peer support programs

🔹 Optional 30-Minute Follow-Up

Conducted 4–6 weeks later via telehealth, this session checks in on progress, supports accountability, and adjusts goals or resources as needed.

🔹 Department Summary Report

After all sessions are complete, we provide the department with an anonymized report summarizing key themes and program utilization—helping you better understand and support your team.

What This Is Not

These assessments are never:

  • ❌ Fitness-for-duty evaluations
  • ❌ Diagnostic or punitive
  • ❌ Shared with command staff or HR (except in cases of imminent safety concern)

All services are conducted in accordance with HIPAA and Arizona licensure law. Confidentiality is our highest priority.

Sample Topics Covered

  • How are you sleeping?
  • Are any calls or events lingering?
  • What stressors are currently impacting you?
  • What helps you reset after a hard shift?
  • Are there departmental or family dynamics adding pressure?

Our goal is to provide space for real conversations and meaningful, actionable support.
